为了逃离混乱的生活，马科恩Makorn（Bright 饰）决定离开赌徒男友并租房子。他找到一间出租的房子，这里有设施带给他十足的便利，他买了一台二手冰箱，而那天晚上当马科恩打开冰箱，发现他的手可以触摸从另一边冰箱出现的那位主人的手。
另一边冰箱的主人普莱奥Pleo（kenp 饰）是一個29岁的男人，有着痛苦的过去。俩人同样处于震惊之中，但交谈之后，却发现他们各自身处不同的空间，Pleo在过去的2007年，而Makorn仍在当今时代，随着时间的推移，他们彼此更加了解都知道这个秘密了。
普莱奥被贴上杀人犯儿子的标签，忍受着别人对他的侮辱，直到他发现父亲实际上是被一名高级警官谋杀和诽谤。
此外，一名受人尊敬的教师在父亲被杀时也保持了沉默，这也是Pleo对末日制度失去信心的另一个原因，因此决定选择使用自己的方法进行报复

平安時代中期[1]を舞台に、ほぼ同時期に朝廷に対する叛乱を起こした平将門・藤原純友の生き様を描いた。主人公の将門と、その従兄弟である平貞盛から愛されるものの、両者の戦いに巻き込まれて惨殺されてしまう薄幸の姫君・貴子を吉永小百合が演じた。『真田風雲録』で知られる劇作家・福田善之が脚本を執筆、ここでの将門は、まず民衆が存在して、公などはずっと後からやって来たものだ、などと檄を飛ばすなど（こうした台詞は原作にはない）、反乱の歴史的位置付けを自ら意識した主人公である。
将門の勇敢さと真面目ぶり、貞盛の世渡り上手と気の弱さ、田原藤太の冷静沈着振り、純友の豪胆さと陰謀家ぶり等、人物の造形もわかりやすく、日活の清純派として名が通っていた吉永の演じる貴子が強姦殺害されるシーンも印象的だった。また、傀儡や海賊、遊女、農民等々庶民階層の登場人物が活躍する点も注目される。
2013年現在、平安時代中期というこれまでで最も古い時代を扱った大河ドラマである[2]。原作は海音寺潮五郎の小説『平将門』『海と風と虹と』。歴代大河ドラマの中で全映像の現存が確認されている最古の作品でもある。このうち、本編の放送回の映像は長年現存しないと考えられていたが、2000年代半ばになって、全放送回の映像が収録された当時の2インチVTRが現存していることが確認された（総集編の映像の存在は早くから確認されておりVHSやDVDで商品化されていた）。発見された映像は、9ヶ月にも及ぶデジタルリマスター処理により修復された上で、全話収録の完全版DVDが2007年7月に発売されている。なお、全52回放送の作品で完全版DVDが発売されているのは本作のみであり、これは全作品で一般公開されている尺数としては最も長い。
初回放送時の最高視聴率は30.1%、平均視聴率は24.0%。
